At Long & Long, our pets are integral parts of our families, so it’s only expected that we would celebrate National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week! National Animal Shelter Appreciation Week recognizes the shelters providing care that bridges the gap to adoption for millions of abandoned and stray animals. This week also acknowledges the hard-working people who support the efforts of the shelters. This includes those who work to keep pets safe and healthy in the shelters, those advocating for humane treatment of animals, those who donate time and money to shelters, and owners/parents of rescued animals.

There are about 70 million stray animals in the United States. Up to 8 million of these animals end up in shelters. There are 3,500 animal shelters in the country. It’s at these animal shelters that pets receive a second chance. According to the ASPCA, over 3 million shelter animals are adopted each year. Read the short transcript below to learn about Attorney Earle Long’s golden retriever.

Earle Long:
He loves to swim. That dog’s like a fish. You throw the ball in the water he’s going in. I take him out in the boat and he loves to go swimming. He loves to sit on the front of the boat and watch as you ride around.

Earle’s golden retriever, Rover, is really excited to celebrate National Animal Shelter and Rescue Appreciation Week, and so are we! Brothers Earle and Bennett Long both have dogs and are enthusiastic and generous supporters of Mobile’s animal shelters, including Mobile SPCA. Your family at Long & Long encourages everyone to give your rescue pup or kitty an extra squeeze this week, and remember to support our local animal shelters!
